Do you often feel that you’re “too much, yet not enough…”? Does this feeling show up in multiple areas of your life – relationships, work, self-talk? This sounds like so many of the individuals I work with in therapy!
You may have gotten the message, verbally or not, from family members, religious groups, or significant others in your life that you are “too much” – too opinionated, too fat, too quiet, too bossy, too direct, too skinny, too emotional, too passive, too loud…
Perhaps you had a parent or romantic partner dismiss your emotions and imply that you felt things too deeply, or reacted too strongly.
You may have been part of a religious organization or church where your thoughts, opinions, or talents did not align with the often gender-based norms that were taught.
Maybe you’ve spent years struggling with body image, dieting, or disordered eating based on the messages you heard from every direction about appearance.
You may have been living your whole life feeling as though everyone else was given the instruction manual on how to function while you’ve just been trying to fumble your way through.
In an effort to overcome the influence of these messages, you have worked to take up less space – maybe both physically and emotionally – or to be more “acceptable,” and you’re left wondering if who you are is enough.
I provide professional counseling services via telehealth to adults in North Carolina.
I specialize in working with those who have experienced spiritual abuse, religious trauma, and other types of harm within high-control religious environments.
I also support folks who are navigating body image concerns or feelings of being disconnected from their body, always from a weight-inclusive lens.
My work also includes supporting late-identified neurodivergent (often ADHD and/or Autistic) women.
I am licensed to provide mental health therapy in North Carolina. In my telehealth counseling practice, I strive to provide a listening ear, a safe space to talk through things, and a source of support for your journey. As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, I am able to utilize knowledge and skills to assist you with your struggle. We will collaborate together to determine your goals in living life and taking up space.
All parts of you are welcome and wanted in our shared counseling space.
You can find ways to manage those “too much” messages and believe that you are exactly enough.
Working with body image concerns can often feel like an archaeological dig through all the messgae that have injured your relationship with your body. Learn more about Body Image Counseling.
