Therapy Services in North Carolina
All services are offered via telehealth. Specialties include Religious Trauma / Spiritual Abuse, Body Image Concerns, and Anxiety. In addition to individual counseling, I also offer group counseling, as well workshops & seminars on topics related to mental health.
Religious Trauma Services in North Carolina
Trauma is the experience of something being too much, too fast, or too soon for your nervous system. When this occurs within a religious setting, it is known as religious trauma. Abuse occurs when a person / group utilizes their power to manipulate or unduly influence another. When this occurs within a spiritual setting, it is known as spiritual abuse.
For those who have experienced spiritual abuse and/or religious trauma, the effects may permeate all areas of life. You feel unsure about your identity and beliefs. You’re confused about who you can trust. You may be grieving the loss of relationships. You might experience shame or self-judgment. You feel adrift, knowing you can’t go back to who you were before, yet uncertain of who you are now.
I’ve been there, and I’ve supported hundreds of folks in their journey through the effects of religious trauma. Through individual counseling and group counseling, I am able to help you make sense of your experience and gain clarity about your identity, beliefs, and the way you want to interact with spirituality moving forward.
I also offer trainings for both clinicians and faith leaders who want to better understand Religious Trauma and care for the folks within their realm who have had negative religious experiences.
Body Image Services in North Carolina
Body image concerns affect most folks at some point in their life. Though the specifics of the struggle may vary, most who deal with body image concerns long to have peace with food and their body.
I utilize an approach that I call Body Mindfulness to assist clients in addressing body image concerns and fostering a peaceful relationship with their body. Body Mindfulness incorporates concepts from Intuitive Eating, Health at Every Size, and general mindfulness to help folks learn how to reconnect with their intuition around their body’s needs and desires. This leads to a greater sense of peace in your relationship with food and your body.
I support folks in dealing with body image concerns through individual counseling and Body Mindfulness Group Therapy.
Anxiety Therapy in North Carolina
Anxiety can show up in many ways – feeling overwhelmed by worry, being unable to “turn off your brain” and sleep, fear of the future, concern that others are watching or judging you.
Many of my clients deal with some form of anxiety. This may be based on fears that developed over years spent in high-control religious settings. The anxiety may show up in relation to how they exist in their body or the rules they’ve constructed regarding food. Some clients have more general anxiety, which is associated with ongoing worries about many different things, or social anxiety, which is focused on the fear of being judged by others.
I understand anxiety from both lived experience and clinical training. I work with each individual to understand the ways their anxiety impacts their life. My clients and I collaborate on figuring out how to lessen those impacts, and to identify what is helpful in each person’s situation.
Anxiety therapy often takes place within individual counseling sessions. I also have experience offering an Anxiety Skills Group, focusing on developing general skills to assist with anxiety, as well as seminars related to anxiety in a specific context.

Neurodivergent -Affirming Services in North Carolina
The term “neurodivergent” refers to brain differences, and can include a variety of presentations, diagnoses, or concerns. The neurodivergent umbrella includes (but isn’t limited to) Autism, ADHD, OCD, Dyslexia, Epilepsy, Sensory Processing Disorder, Tic Disorders, Down Syndrome, and Dissociative Disorders. Neurodivergence can also encompass things such as complex-PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury (including concussions), Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Borderline Personality Disorder. Many of my clients, along with myself, fit somewhere underneath the neurodivergent umbrella.
What do I mean when I say that I provide neurodivergent-affirming counseling? I value allowing the individuals I work with to show up as themselves and in ways that help them feel supported and comfortable. This may mean having fidget items available or taking breaks during sessions to meet sensory or processing needs. This means that I ask questions both verbally and written during group sessions, providing opportunity for group participants to engage verbally or written as well.
Beginning in June 2025, I will also begin offering neurodivergent-affirming autism / ADHD assessments for adults (18+) in North Carolina. Assessments will occur over several sessions, with the specific format and number determined by each individual’s needs and preferences. I am excited to add this service as a way to increase accessibility to assessment and support late-identified autistic and/or ADHD folks in gaining a greater understanding of themselves.
