FEATURED: Neurodivergence, Shame, and Religious Trauma

I was recently invited to be a guest on The Place you Can Say It, a podcast from the Religious Trauma Network (RTN).  We talked about so many important topics including:

  • Neurodivergence – what is it and how can neurodivergence intersect with religious experiences?
  • The term “church hurt” and why I don’t believe it’s an accurate description for many people’s experiences with religious beliefs, practices, or structures.
  • The interconnected relationship between body shame and purity culture.
  • What supportive therapy can look like for those who have experienced religious trauma, and some tips for finding a qualified religious trauma therapist.

Who am I?  I’m Michelle F. Moseley, LCMHC, a licensed mental health counselor in NC who specializes in working with survivors of religious trauma, spiritual abuse, and other types of religious harm.  I also work with folks around concerns related to body image, neurodivergence, and how all these things can intersect.  I’m a member of the Advisory Panel for RTN and was excited to have this conversation with others involved with this work.
